Impermanence Series

These sculptures are an exploration of impermanence.

Each piece starts with a classical form that's balanced and symmetrical. Then it undergoes a transformation using a combination of hand building and imbrication (layered, hand-sculpted, paper thin strips applied individually, one at a time). 

Each form holds tension between fragility and durability, control and surrender, construction and collapse. The surface organism unsettles and contrasts against the smooth classical form. There's a shifting or eroding in progress.

Time is an active force in this work. Not just in the making, but in the way each piece suggests a future of how it might continue to change or breakdown. Nothing is resolved. Everything is existing in a transition of becoming.
